Having qualified for the semi-final of the Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) Trophy as best runners-up, Glenrothes were to reverse their underdog status and claim a solid win over Falkland 2nd XI on Wednesday evening.
Glenrothes skipper won the toss and chose to bat first, hoping to give his batters the best chance of seeing the ball before darkness fell.
Openers Govind Singh and Sufyan Ahmed got off to a blistering start, with Ahmed in particular hitting the ball hard for multiple boundaries. Their half-century partnership came up in just 3.2 overs!
Having tried five bowlers in five overs to stem the runs, it was Ryan Hepburn to make the breakthrough as he saw Singh caught by his brother Craig.
Teenager Anas Tanveer was to showcase his improving batting confidence, coming in at number three and creating the backbone for others to bat around.
Ahmed having started strongly soon got himself bogged down, with good bowling from young Charlie Burton really testing him. It was no surprise when Charlie won the battle to see Ahmed dismissed for 41.
With Tanveer continuing to bat well, it was Mayank Sautiyal and Muhammad Osama to provide the quick runs as Falkland pegged Glens back to 162 for six from their 20 overs.
A solid start by Michael Hibberd and Craig Trewartha gave the home team confidence, but with their wickets claimed by Kevin Le Roux (on his way to four for 21) saw the game turn.
Falkland batters seemed like rabbits in the highlights for some reason, with wickets falling at regular intervals.
Osama with three for 11 and young Ben Krzyzanowski getting two miracle ball wickets meant Glenrothes dominated the second innings, with Falkland eventually bowled out for 114 as the darkness began to set in.
A good win for Glenrothes, though it also showed the effects on teams like Falkland playing across multiple competitions and players being "cup-tied" out of availability.
Glenrothes will play Kinloch in the final of The Crickety SPCU Trophy on Sunday 17th August at Brechin.
