A tough start to our Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) North East Championship (NEC) campaign yesterday. After a long trip north, it turned into a short day out in the middle, with Glenrothes bowled out for 42 and Huntly chasing the target down quickly to claim a 10‑wicket win.
Glenrothes struggled from the outset, losing wickets in clusters and never settling into any rhythm. Only Muhammad Tayyiub (11) reached double figures, with extras (18) the best contributor.
The story of the innings was Huntly’s relentless bowling, led by Alexander MacLennan, who produced a superb spell of 6 for 17 from 7 overs, including four lbw dismissals. Calum Howard provided strong support, taking 3 for 7, while Glenrothes suffered a run‑out and collapsed from 13–1 to 42 all out.
Huntly wasted no time in knocking off the target, completing the chase in just 26 balls.
Roshorn John set the tone with an explosive 20 off 12 balls, including two sixes, while Michael Myron‑Petrie struck a brisk 22 off 14, hitting five boundaries. The pair’s positive intent ensured a swift finish and sealed a commanding win.
Glenrothes captain Qasim Ahmed reflected on the game, noting it was a harsh lesson, though one tough afternoon doesn’t define us - it teaches us. Good teams learn quickly, and that’s our challenge now. Let’s adapt fast, back each other, and bring real intent next week.
