Report by Chris Greaves Glenrothes took on Murrayfied DAFS down at the Riverside Park this Saturday in the ESCA Division 1 match. Murrayfield DAFS won the toss and chose to field first.

Opening batsmen Stephen Rowley and Greig Hopcroft made a steady start to the innings. Hopcroft was first to go as he lofted a ball down the throat of backward point for 11 runs. This brought Chris Greaves to the crease, who was dismissed for the first time in the league for 6 runs, in came the skipper Ian Dale who was trapped LBW for 0. This left Glenrothes with lots of work to be done as wickets were falling.

Guy Robinson and Rowley steadied the ship. Robinson was starting to find his feet as he played some really great shots all around the park. Rowley was next to go as he mis- timed his shot straight to the fielder for 35 runs. Richard Evason’s innings was short lived getting bowled for 3 runs which brought BOOM BOOM Farooq Khan to the crease and he surprised all as he played some great shots along the deck. Robinson and Khan were moving the score swiftly until Guy Robinson got out for 21 runs.

Darren Lewis joined Khan at the crease and this is when Khan freed his arms and started to clear the rope and the score was now looking more reasonable. Lewis was starting to play some classy strokes and looking good. Khan was next out for a quick 28 runs. Cameron Ross was in next and his innings was short lived as he was out for 4 runs. Ian Georgeson joined Lewis and immediately both showed their intentions. Lewis and Georgeson made it look easy to score run’s all around the ground and soon brought up their 50 run partnership. Lewis was dismissed short of his half ton. Kenny Crichton finished up the Glenrothes innings with Georgeson. The bottom order showed the rest how to post a target of 195-9after 49.3 overs.

After some great teas and carrot cake Glenrothes had to take the field and try to defend their respectable total of 195. Skipper Ian Dale turned to his opening bowlers Farooq Khan and Ian Georgeson. The bowling was good and made it challenging for the batsmen as the bounce off the pitch was always surprising. Stephen Rowley was next to bowl as skipper Dale thought it was best to take the pace off the ball. The correct choice as Rowley made the 1st breakthrough 61-1 of P.Hawkins for 10. Chris West was next in and shortly lived as he was caught by Lewis off Rowley’s bowling. Wickets were starting to fall at good times of the game for Glenrothes. A.Jaffery and A.Venkatesh started scoring runs around the park and made things hard for the bowlers.

The fielding was good by the Glens and it was one single too many as Chris Greaves ran out A.Jaffery for 17 runs. Kenny Crichton bowled well to build pressure. Murrayfield started to score runs easily and made things very exciting for some, but became nerve racking for the Glens. With Murrayfield DAFS needing 37 runs to win Lewis and Greaves bowled really well to keep the runs down and sharing 5 wickets between each other. Glenrothes worked hard together and got another win to keep the unbeaten streak going for the season. Glenrothes won by 13runs.
