1st XI Take To The Field (At Last!)

Glenrothes Cricket Club's 1st XI took to the field for the first time since 2nd June due to the continued wet weather. This was in the main down to the hard work in the week prior to the game with covers being on the wicket for 2 days, plus the purchase of a new "Bow Dry" machine mopping up the standing water. Big thanks especially to John Bell, Greig Hopcroft, Eddie Gibbs and in addition Chris Greaves, Steve Rowley and Birendra for putting the covers on during week.
Marchmont were the visitors to Riverside Park on Saturday in East League Division 1, they won the toss and asked Glens to bat first. A slow but solid start was made before Rowley was out caught behind for 14 runs. Hopcroft and Greaves then proceeded to put on a 96 run partnership before Greaves was out for 31. Hopcroft was next out for a well made 60 before a soft caught and bowled, wickets the continued to fall at regular intervals with only Watson (24) contributing down the order. Glenrothes were eventually all out for 172 in the final over of the innings.
In reply Marchmont made a steady start however 3 quick LBW decisions swung the game the way of the home side. In particular Rowley who bowled his 10 overs for only 15 runs, before Greaves and Watson cleaned up the innings with 3 wickets a piece (Greaves 3-22 from 7 overs, Watson 3-2 from 1.2 overs). Marchmont all out for 99 in the 37th over, 20 points to Glenrothes.
