Largo 2nd XI 216-6 v Glenrothes 2nd XI 146-8

Glenrothes were finally able to get a 2nd XI game played, hosting Largo 2nd XI at Gilvenbank Park on Saturday 12 June in the Breedon Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) Division 2.

A game full of many highlights played in great spirits under lovely blue skies - almost perfect really!!

Glenrothes skipper Nic Krzyzanowski won the toss and controversially decided to bowl first, opening with Iain Georgeson and Brian Morris. Both bowled with little luck, so it was young Charlie Burton first change who made the breakthrough, drawing visiting skipper Scott to hit in to the covers where Ravi Kiran clung on the catch in his upper arm.

It was to be Kiran to the come to the fore with the ball, bowling eight overs straight through in claiming 4 wickets for 32 runs. Two highlights - Colin Dryburgh putting his hand up to wave the ball goodbye only to have it stick for a wonderful one-handed catch, and then Ravi combining with his son Karthik Copppisetty taking a catch as wicket-keeper.

In amongst this, Iain Georgeson rolled back the years with a diving stop in the point area, and a quick release to Coppisetty saw Coates run out cheaply, with Largo 90 for 6 from 24 overs.

But this was to be a turning point, as Cuisick and Brown batted wonderfully through rotating the strike with perfectly nudged singles and hitting hard against any balls slightly off line. They put on an unbroken partnership of 126, with Cuisick 56* and Brown 58* to take Largo to 216 for 6 from their 40 overs.

Great to see Glenrothes giving lots of players a go in the first half, with 8 bowlers bowling.

It was to be father and son Joe Burton and Charlie Burton opening the second innings, with Charlie looking comfortable before somehow missing a straight one from MacLeod.

This brought Dryburgh to the middle, delighted to hit some runs including a boundary before he was out caught and bowled to Scott.

There was then some good consolidation between Burton and Georgeson, Joe hitting loose balls to the boundary and Georgeson guiding singles. With Georgeson beginning to open up with a couple of good boundaries, he was bowled by Miles for 22, followed quickly by Karthik Coppisetty to the same dismissal.

Brian Morris batted sensibly to keep the scoreboard moving, before Joe Burton was bowled by Gillin for 32. Morris and Ravi Kiran took the score past 100, before Brian (18) became the fifth batter to be dismissed bowled in the innings and then followed by young Ben Krzyzanowski similarly.

With Ravi out caught, it was left to Dave Snook (10*) and Nic Krzyzanowski (12*) to see out the last few overs, Glenrothes finishing on 146 for 8 from 40 overs. Great bowling of 4 for 8 from 6 overs by Miles was the big difference in the visiting bowling attack, as otherwise they conceded a massive 31 wides!

A number of photos have been provided by Ian Scott from Largo CC, many thanks for sharing.

A really fun game with everyone playing with a positive attitude throughout. Many thanks to Largo for visiting, and look forward to the return game later in the season!
