Glenrothes 2s 134 a/o v 135-5 Kinloch 2s

Kinloch 2nd XI visited Gilvenbank Park on Saturday 14 August for the second time this year in the Breedon Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) Division 2.

Glenrothes batted first and very quickly got into trouble, losing Joe Burton, Reyon Thomas, Paul Culleton and Karthik Coppisetty with just one run between them all. The green pitch was nipping around a bit but all will have been disappointed to lose their wickets - young Coppisetty looked to be settling in well for example before tamely chipping back a caught and bowled to Hawley-Banks.

It was to be young Charlie Burton, as he done across many games this season, to dig in and look to bat "long" - which included taking a number of blows to his body. He found an excellent partner in Iain Georgeson and both consolidated well before each were to lose their wicket - Burton for 18 and and Georgeson for 46.

James Haslam, struggling a bit to get used to the slow pitch, was able to bed in and push a good few singles around and calling well and running hard. With him, Chris Marshman was able to go with the "agricultural" route and swing hard - hitting a number of big boundary shots before trying one too many to be bowled for 32 by Ahmed. From there Ahmed was able to push through the remaining batters and see Glenrothes bowled out for 134 from 38 overs.

Visiting skipper Saghir and fellow opener Khurshid batted excellently, working hard through the early overs and opening their arms later on. Luck was with them though as a number of half-chances just went wide or long and a couple of very hard chances went down. But with the century opening partnership in sight, it was to be Khurshid to be dismissed for 46 as he lofted Reyon Thomas high to be caught very well by young Coppisetty running back from mid-on.

In this case, one did bring as two as next ball it was to be Saghir to dismissed - tamely hitting an outside edge to Georgeson at slip, Thomas with 2 for 22 from 5 overs. With the double-breakthrough, Glenrothes could sense further inroads could be made and this was proved right as Georgeson (3 for 36 from 8) took the ball and claimed three further wickets - two to catches by Joe Burton (another good catch running back from mid-on) and James Haslam (excellent reactions to dive forward at fly slip), with Punithathayaparan bowled from a yorker in between them.

But it was Kinloch who were able to push on from there and claim the win, finishing on 135 for 5 in the 29th over.

A really good game played well and with respect from both teams, very much appreciated to Kinloch for their great effort.
