Kinloch 186-5 v 96-8 Glenrothes

Glenrothes 2nd XI welcomed Kinloch 2s to Gilvenbank Park on Wednesday in a rearranged fixture in the Breedon Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) Division 2.

Kinloch were invited to bat first, and welcomed that decision as most batters looked to hit strongly. In particular, Saghir (48) and Raghuraman (48*) batted well, but the dogged Glenrothes fielding positions paid off as three catches were taken at fly-slip with the batters looking to swipe at most balls.

For Glenrothes, it was mostly a young bowling attack and all did well to work hard against a strong batting lineup - with indeed three of the top seven being regular players in the North East Championship. Two wickets to Muhammad Tayyiub and one wicket each to Ben Krzyzanowski and Israq Rihan were well merited, as was the miserly bowling from Charlie Burton. The other wicket went to Iain Georgeson, showing that training and match practice is not always needed to bowl well!

Kinloch finishing 186 for 5 from their 20 overs.

Glenrothes stuck with youth in the second innings, as Tayyiub and Charlie Burton opened but an early mis-hit from Tayyiub brought Joe Burton to to the crease. He was to bat well with some nice lofted cover drives and a good few tucks off the hip, but his confidence got the better of him as he called a single only to spot his error and end up slipping on his bahookie for a well made 29.

With light fading and scoreboard pressure telling, the remaining Glenrothes batters looked to take a few extra risks but it wasn't to be. Charlie Burton dragged on for a well made 14, and there was a good cameo of seven from Rihan though the last batting highlight was to go to Chris Marshman with a reverse sweep boundary four in the final over.

Glenrothes finishing 97 for 8 from their 20 overs. A tough game against a talented side, but good match experience for the young side. Many thanks to Kinloch for a good game.
