Glenrothes XI 172-8 v 42 a/o Falkland 3rd XI

After the disappointment of the rained off game against Kinloch 3rd XI, a mixed Glenrothes team made the short journey to the second Falkland ground at Scroggie Park to to face Falkland 3rd XI.

With much improved weather, the game was played in good spirits with both team enjoying and played in a very positive environment.

Both skippers agreed to a 30 over game with batters retiring at 50. It was Glenrothes skipper Qasim Ahmad who won the toss and decided to bat first, hoping the put a strong total on the board.

Falkland made a positive start with the ball conceding only 17 runs in the first 5 overs while they took two Glenrothes wickets, though things changed in the next over when Sufyan Ahmed walked to the crease, scoring 25 runs in the 6th over. The onslaught continued by Sufyan where he broke his own record of fastest fifty by scoring in 12 balls. W

When Sufyan retired scoring rate dropped but the Glens continued to score runs, eventually scoring 172 runs with useful contributions from Bimal and Mayank 27 each, Ben 16 and Gulawrang 12 not out.

Glens started the second innings strongly with both opening bowlers Kevin and Gulawrang only conceding 20 runs in the first 8 overs, and Gulawrang taking his first wicket for Glens.

The star of the day was young Ben Krzyzanowski who came as a first change and took his first 5 wicket haul in 5 overs conceding only 12 runs with one wicket maiden over. Mayank also bowled superbly from the other end bowling three maidens on the row and taking two wickets. The icing on the cake for Glen was the bowling of the Shaun who bowled two over and taking two wickets conceding only 5 runs.

Overall, a good game from which both teams will have taken many positives in giving players valuable batting and bowling time in the middle. Many thanks to Falkland 3rd XI for hosting us so well, and we look forward to meeting up with them on the cricket pitch again soon.

Qasim Ahmad, Captain
