Glenrothes XI 95-6 v 103-6 Largo XI

A mixed Glenrothes XI welcomed a Largo XI to Gilvenbank Park last Wednesday, 26 July, for a T20 friendly.

Glenrothes having won the toss chose to bat first, scoring 95 for 6 from their 20 overs. It was a soft wicket so many batters struggled to get going, though good bowling by all the Largo bowlers put pressure on through out.

Qasim Ahmad top scored with 42 with 29 balls, but it was also great to see 14 year old Rayaan Shahid having the confidence to go in at number 3 and face a number of balls before retiring not out.

The second innings for Largo started at a good pace, with the openers putting on 27 in the first 5 overs, but guest Muhammad Assad was to make the breakthrough bowling Das for 15. This brought the Coates brothers together who batted well, with Ben in particular hitting hard before retiring on 30.

The Largo middle order wobbled, leaving them on 81 for 5 after 18 overs with a further 16 runs from two overs needed for the win. Udayan coming in next batter for the 19th over was the game-changer though, hitting 15 runs from the over to seal the victory.

It was very pleasing to see 12 year old Joe Myles bowling through the mid-innings spell, and whilst wicketless only conceded 5 runs against a strong Largo side.

An extra (20th) over was bowled though to complete the game, with Shaun Rowcliffe given the honours and he duly delivered, taking a wicket with the stumping completed by young Muhammad Tayyiub - Largo finishing on 103 for 6.

Many thanks to Largo for the really enjoyable game.
