Strathmore 2s 256-5 v 127 ao Glenrothes 2s

Glenrothes 2nd XI hosted Strathmore 2nd XI (from Forfar) at Gilvenbank Park on Saturday in the Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) Division 2.

Strathmore batted first, and made a fast start through Harikrishnan Bhuvaneswaran (32) before he was bowled by first change bowler Rahman Tawheedi.

After an excellent consolidation by Nigel Hazel (33) and Craig McDonald (51), it was to be the visiting skipper James Colhoun to put on a batting masterclass as he hit a very quick and almost effortless century before retiring on 101 not out.

Strathmore were to finish on 256 for five from their 40 overs with two wickets to Muhammad Tayyiub and a wicket each to Ben Krzyzanowski, Rahman Tawheedi and Israq Riahan. Huge well done to Kevin Le Roux for a great catch in the covers, which all spectators definitely saw.

It wasn't to be a great start in the second innings as a horrible mix up between the Glenrothes opening batters saw Reyon Thomas run out early, though Muhammad Tayyiub looked to get settled into his batting to make amends.

Despite a few starts being made by the batters, Strathmore kept taking wickets to keep the pressure on.

The young and improving Saad Naeem played a couple of lovely shots to get into double figures before going for one too many shots to be caught at mid-off, and was soon followed back to the pavilion by Tayyiub for a well made 38.

It was left to Garry Tighe to push the score on, Tighe scoring 17 as helped push the Glens past the 125 to claim the teams fourth batting point in their loss as they were bowled out for 127 in 30 overs.

Another day of learning for the young and inexperienced Glens team - with the need to bowl straight and full, to stop the ball before its get passed you in the field and to bat your time when your time comes.

Thanks to all in the Strathmore team who approached the whole game with a fantastic focus on fun for all.
