Following a heavy defeat the previous weekend at The Cairns, Glenrothes 2nd XI welcomed Broomhall to Gilvenbank Park on Saturday for an immediate return fixture in the SPCU Division 3.
Broomhall won the toss and invited to Glenrothes to bat first, no doubt hoping to roll the home team over cheaply on a pitch expected to see plenty of movement.
Adeel Ali and Dave Snook were to put on an excellent opening partnership, easing any major concerns. But with Snook dismissed with the score on 34, this brought Ikram Ullah to the crease and he showed his intentions striking a massive six to get him off the mark.
But Ullah was soon to depart, shortly followed by Ali for a well made 35. The common Glenrothes ill of "one brings more" was to hold true yet again as the middle order fell apart cheaply.
It was left to Kevin Le Roux with 15 not out to help steer Glenrothes to 99 all out in the 32nd over - Euan Breen pick of the bowlers with outstanding figures of six for 23.
Jack Hynd and Angus Robertson opened the second innings with confidence, striking a number of boundaries to quickly bring down the required runs.
However, the Glenrothes team are well led and motivated under skipper Joe Burton and dug deep to put the pressure back on the visitors
Ali (three for 25), Ullah (two for 20) and young Joe Myles (two for 16) were to bowl well and reduce Broomhall to 80 for seven and put the game finely balanced.
It was though to be Broomhall's day, as Brian Brown to hit the match-winning boundary.
Joe Burton reflected on the positives after the game, noting "bowling and fielding was superb we know it’s our batting that needs to improve. Thanks to all players for their efforts."
Well done to Broomhall for claiming the double.
