Glenrothes 2nd XI welcomed Largo 2nd XI to Gilvenbank Park on Saturday in the latest round of fixtures in the Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) Division 3.
Largo won the toss and invited Glenrothes to bat first, and they got early reward as veteran David Snook was bowled by young Innes MacDonald.
This though brought teenager Karthik Coppisetty to the crease and he showcased his big-hitting to full affect in partnership with Bimal Nalupurrakal Balan.
Both batted extremely well to bring up their 50s, with Balan top-scoring with 76 as he started to hit out and bowled by the ever-improving young Murdo Duncan and Coppisetty bowled by Innes MacDonald for his deserved second wicket.
Ikram Ullah (31) was bowled by visiting skipper Brent Bentley and Paul Culleton (34) run out by Stuart MacDonald, which allowed Glenrothes to post a very strong 256 for five from their 40 overs.
Largo opened with skipper Bentley and young Innes MacDonald, and both batted well to see of the early overs. Young Archie Taylor was to make the breakthrough though, as Ikram Ullah took an excellent one-handed catch at mid-on to dismiss Bentley for 22.
Innes was joined by his father Stuart MacDonald, though their partnership was not to last as a mix-up saw MacDonald senior run out by Ben Anderson without facing.
Stylie Sandhu, having been unlucky to go wicketless from a solid bowling spell, was to show his all-round skills with a positive innings. Having raised the team total to 70, Innes MacDonald was bowled by young Joe Myles for a well made 11.
Sandhu though found a solid partner in Ross MacDonald, and they soon brought up their half century partnership. David Snook was to make the breakthrough as Ikram Ullah claimed his second catch to dismiss MacDonald for 22, then Sandhu was bowled by Ullah for 43.
In what was described as "absolute scenes", Snook was to claim his second week as he snared Fletcher Smith through a caught and bowled.
Karthik Coppisetty was to then claim two quick wickets, but last batting pair Tom Allan Graham MacDonald (the fourth member of the family playing that day) were to see out the remaining balls as Largo finished on 151 for nine from their 40 overs.
The mix of youth and experience for Glenrothes continues to see impressive results, with five teenagers in the team all playing strong parts. A big thanks to Largo for a well-played game again.
