Glenrothes 2nd XI made the relatively short trip to Charlestown in South-West Fife a week past Saturday, in their latest fixture in the Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) Division
Broomhall are without doubt far too strong for SPCU 3 when they get their full-strength side out - and this was very clear in the result!
Broomhall batted first hoping to post another imposing total like the first fixture at The Cairns earlier this season. Kevin Le Roux though was keen to reverse that view, taking two early wickets as both openers were dismissed for ducks.
Skipper Scott Lucas (53) and Glens nemesis of this year Euan Breen (16) rebuilt the innings but the mid-innings wickets to Jordan Smith and Ikram Ullah pegged them back.
Unfortunately this brought Ali Gudgin to the crease and he took the game by the scruff of the neck and hit an excellent 82, helping Broomhall reach 199 all out.
Three wickets each to Smith and Le Roux, though more pleasing was the two for 17 from six from wee Joe Myles.
Glenrothes will have been pleased they didn't let Broomhall post an imposing score though will have felt they let them get too far ahead.
Unfortunately, Glens batting just could not get going - no real explanation, just one of those games unfortunately.
Wahab Tawheedi reached double-figures but five ducks through the middle order created the domino effect as Glenrothes tumbled to 31 all out.
A bruising defeat, but one which the Glens team will have learned a lot from. We really hope Broomhall get promoted at the end of season!
