Dundee HSFP XI 104-12 v 124-9 Glenrothes XI

Sunday morning saw the Glenrothes team awaken to rain battering off the pavements, with the road trip that followed seeing windscreen wipers working overtime not inspiring confidence of any cricket being played.

But crossing the "beautiful silvery Tay" led to a change of fortune, with Dalnacraig providing a welcoming sight for a day of fun for a "recreational and development" style cricket game against Dundee HSFP.

Home skipper Andrew Lindsay won the toss and chose to bat first though he began to question his choice as early wickets fell.

Jordan Smith saw Professor Colin Reid chop on to his own stumps, soon followed back to the pavilion by the talented Irfan brothers - Sulman caught by keeper Sufyan Ahmed off the bowling of Muhammad Tayyiub and Smith claiming his second as he bowled Ahad.

Skipper Lindsay was to make a quick return to the pavilion - a turn of pace he missed out on the pitch as Anas Tanveer ran him out.

31 for 5 was to soon become 64 for 8, as first Ben Krzyzanowski bowled Kalhan Patak with a faster leg-spinner then Subhan Shirzad repeated the trick to bowl Shayan Raheel. Govind Singh and his loopy spinners then accounted for two others with one caught by Tanveer and the other stumped by Ahmed.

Connor Lynch for the home team though was batting well throughout the loss of wickets, and found an able partner in young Monty Parratt to edge his team closer to three figures.

Lynch though was to be dismissed for 43, caught by Ahmed off the bowling of Rayaan Shahid, and soon followed by Yahya Shameer bowled by Shahid for his second wicket - Dundee HSFP all out for 97 in the 30th over. Though younger batters batted on for more experience with a further seven runs added (104 for 12) wicket a wicket each to Tanveer and Ahmed.

A teenage opening pair of Tayyiub and Tanveer faced up against young Pathak bowling well and Connor Lynch bowling at good pace.

The batters battled hard against good bowling, though the number of extras (particularly byes) kept a pace with them as a half century partnership came into sight.

Tayyiub though was to be dismissed in a recurring fashion from recent weeks - knocking up a simple catch to mid-wicket from the bowling of an impressive Parratt at second change.

Govind Singh looked to up the tempo and having set a good base was dismissed for 19 to an excellent catch by Lynch on the long-off boundary off the bowling of Raheel.

Raheel was to repeat the trick shortly after, this time to an even better catch by young Pathak at mid-off to dismiss Tanveer.

At 83 for 3 in the 19th over, Glens needed 12 further runs to win and Ben Krzyzanowski was to see them to the target shortly afterwards. As per the the first innings, Glens batted on to give everyone more game time - and Krzyzanowski was immediately bowled by Arasah.

The home teams mix of senior and junior took hold of the game at this point and took a number of wickets to gain some excellent experience and confidence.

Many thanks to Dundee HSFP for hosting us and giving us a good experience of the R&D league cricket. The playing rules of the league place an emphasis on youth, with the recommendation of at least 4 under 18 players in the team - with Glens sending 7 youth players the game certainly showed it could be a useful route to explore for the future.
