Glenrothes 2nd XI travelled to Forfar last Sunday to face unbeaten league leaders Scot Lions - a talented, unbeaten Sri Lankan community side - and produced a performance full of fight and discipline despite defeat.
The hosts batted first and showed intent from the outset, combining solid defence with sharp attacking strokes. A couple of dropped chances denied young Archie Taylor and Kevin Le Roux early wickets, but Le Roux soon struck back, removing two of the top‑order batters with excellent control.
The Lions continued to attack, yet Glenrothes’ bowlers and fielders maintained pressure throughout. Wickets for Ikram Ullah, Jordan Smith, young Joe Myles and Basil Varghese rewarded their persistence, while Le Roux stole the headlines with a superb spell - completing a team hat‑trick and figures of 5 for 25 in 7.4 overs - as Scot Lions were bowled out for 193.
Openers Ikram Ullah and Dipu Das began confidently, Ullah attacking from the start. Das was run out by a sharp direct hit from bowler Oshan, bringing Georgekutty Chacko to the crease to steady the innings. Ullah’s aggressive 58 had the home side under pressure at 73 for 1 after 12 overs, but his dismissal turned the tide.
Chacko continued to bat fluently, yet wickets fell regularly around him. Glenrothes reached 150 for 7 with hopes of a late surge, but once Chacko departed for a fine 52, the resistance faded and the side was bowled out for 157.
Despite the loss, Glenrothes 2nd XI can take great pride in their effort and attitude. They maintained discipline, energy, and positivity against formidable opponents who put pressure on in different ways, showing that the team spirit and bowling depth are strong foundations for the rest of the season.
