Edward Gibbs
Hall of Fame 8 of 14

8. Edward Gibbs

Edward Gibbs joined the club in 2006 has tended to play only very occasionally and only when absolutely needed. He was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2013 and became the seventh overall inductee.

Unlike most other inductees there’s not a lot of statistics in relation to his on field contributions, however that is only one small part of the story. Eddie has done a staggering amount of work off the field in recent years and is undoubtedly the architect of transforming our club for the modern era. He has done a power of work on club infrastructure including comprehensive strategies for team and committee structure, website and social media communications, club promotion and advertising, player recruitment and support to captains, new ground planning, overhaul of junior section to from Gladiators, Coach Education and financial support through sponsorship.

In 2011 discussions were happening within the club regarding the future of the 2nd XI and whether we should look at dropping them from the league due to a severe lack of numbers and increasingly ageing side. Now fast forward through Eddie's work and we are comfortably fielding 4 XI’s every Saturday along with Sunday FCU side and various midweek league teams. The club has never had a better footing and success on the field quickly followed; reaching the CSL for the first time, winning the Fife Cup for the first time in over 30 years and the 2nd XI clinching back to back titles and promotions. We have a thriving youth section, which obviously the coaches play a major role with; but Eddie has been instrumental with promoting the Gladiators and attracting youngsters and their parents down to the club.

Eddie is a true figurehead of the club and a real inspiration too many. He is very deserving of his Hall of Fame induction and he should be very proud of his achievements.
