Key discussions from the AGM held 25 November 2022

The club held it's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday 25th November where we were able to look back on the season gone and celebrate our cricketing efforts as well as learn from experiences to help shape how the club can continue to improve going forward.

Thanks were given to a number of people stepping down from the committee and for all they had done to help keep the club moving forward - Denise Wallace (Chairperson), Chris Marshman (Club Captain), Nathan Salt (Grounds Manager) and Holly Marshman (Communications Manager).

Key points of discussion were:

  • A high-level financial plan set out the need to improve fundraising
  • The progress made on the cricket field through the summer, though balanced against challenges in fielding two senior teams regularly[/b]
  • The young Glenrothes Gladiators showed fantastic commitment and improvements throughout all games, activities and sessions across the season
  • A new management committee was voted in, and in particular we welcomed Joe Burton as the new Chairperson
  • We made some small amendments to our Constitution, including strengthening our our approach to equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Confirmed our provisional membership fees for next season with flexibility to make reductions if we can
  • Considered proposals from the Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) for changes to playing conditions for the 2023 season onwards
  • Discussed our partnership with the Glenrothes Community Sports & Health Hub and what we can do to ensure cricket and sporting provision is central to all Hub activities going forward
  • The strategic refresh at Cricket Scotland which provides focus on strengthening governance arrangements and providing more support to grassroots level cricket

Following on from the AGM we also held the Awards Night for 2022, to celebrate some of the individual successes for the season. Our prizewinners were:

  • 1st XI Batter - Sufyan Ahmed
  • 1st XI Bowler - Mayank Sautiyal
  • 2nd XI Batter - Karthik Coppisetty
  • 2nd XI Bowler - Muhammad Tayyiub
  • Tommy Snook Junior of the Year - Ben Krzyzanowski
  • Maureen Ramsay Memorial Trophy (club person of the year) - Nic Krzyzanowski
  • Special Recognition - Shaun Rowcliffe
  • Duck Award and Thanks for Coming - Joe Burton

A huge congratulations go to all the prizewinners, and in particular the whole club was immensely proud to see young Gladiators Karthik and Muhammad take the 2nd XI prizes - very well deserved for the improvements and maturity in their game!

As for Joe and his "thanks for coming" award - he was in the midst of a very solid innings against Kinloch 2s (full of lofted drives and tucks off the hip) before he decided to go for a suicidal run, spotted the error of his ways (perhaps because of the "what are you doing Dad" shout or tutting from his son Charlie at the other end) before slipping on his bahookie trying to recover. Yip, thanks for coming Joe, you gave us (and yourself) a good laugh.

Thanks to everyone for their efforts through the 2022 season, and here's to continuing the club's improvements into 2023 and beyond.
